New Heights and the connected communities of AHUMC are all part of a multi-directional, multi-campus communications platform called The City.
The City is a web-based network that exists to connect people in community, build deeper relationships, mobilize service and mission, and make a lasting impact on our world through the Gospel.
The key to The City is information: what you want to know, when, where & how you want to know it. When you register on The City, you manage your own communication preferences; you decide how and when you receive information. And the flow of information is interactive, enabling you to communicate easily with individuals and groups in our church.
How does The City work?
The City is organized by Groups. When you register, you will automatically be included in the AHUMC Community Group. Within that are smaller groups that you may choose to join, such as the New Heights Group. Other groups may include your small group, your child's Sunday School class, a neighborhood group or even an affinity group of people with common interests. You can join existing groups or start your own.
What does The City do?
Within a Group, you can share your prayer requests, start a discussion, create an event and invite all the members of your group or other related groups, and upload photos, videos, and documents. It's a fast way to contact all the members of your group at one time, without having to search for email or snail-mail addresses or play phone tag.
Is The City safe?
The City is a secure network. You set the privacy level of your contact information. Your profile isn't searchable online, and only people who are part of AHUMC on The City can find your name from within The City.
Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to have an account on The City. A child between 13-18 years may have an account, but can only send and receive messages with people listed as their City Friends. Parents maintain oversight of their children's profiles.
Is The City a fad or passing technology?
We do not believe so. The City is a division of ACS Technologies, the leading provider of church information management solutions. As The City is "cloud-based" communication, it has the capacity to evolve as technology changes. Furthermore, its integration with ACS Technologies, makes for a seamless transition for all of our community needs in event registration, membership information management, finances and facilities management in the coming years. Our community will organically determine exactly how and what The City does.
